POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Full details on A Flying Start Nursery’s Policies and Procedures are available upon request.  Your attention is drawn to them.  A copy of the complaints, Late Collection and Lost Child polices are included in this pack for your attention.

SICKNESS & EMERGENCY TREATMENT

For the health and welfare of all children who come to the nursery we request that you do not bring in your child if they are ill or have an infectious disease. In the event of your child requiring emergency treatment the emergency policy will come into force (you are required to sign the attached form) all avenues will be used to contact you first.

MEDICATION

If your child is on medication which has to be administered whilst attending nursery, you must complete a medicine consent form giving instructions on times and dosage for each course.  Written consent must also be given for the application of creams and lotions.

ALLERGIES, ASTHMA, MEDICAL CONDITIONS

All of the above conditions must be reported to the Nursery Manager, with full information regarding the condition and treatment.

SUNSCREENS

Sunscreen is to be applied at home which should last up to 6 hours.  Please supply a sunscreen of minimum Factor 25 (which should give cover for 6 hours). In the afternoon the sunscreen can be reapplied by the Nursery staff. With parental consent.

NAPPY/BARRIER CREAMS

If required parents are required to provide nappy/barrier creams for their child.

CHANGE OF CIRCUMSTANCES

Please keep us informed if you move house, change your place of work or phone numbers, please ask the office for a change of circumstance form and return it as soon as possible.
It is important our records are up to date in case of emergency.

LUNCH

Lunches are provided by you and we are pleased to offer the facilities to reheat any meals.  All lunches are kept refrigerated and in individual baskets with the child’s name on Please bear in mind our nut and shell fish policy when choosing lunches to send in.

OUTINGS AND OTHER OUTSIDE ACTIVITES

We sometimes organise trips for the children, which take them off the Nursery premises.  Staffing levels are always considered and adhered to.  We have insurance to cover the children but written permission will be sought detailing the outing venue, date, times, aims of the outing, mode of transport (if any) and the adult/child ratio.  A comprehensive risk assessment will be carried out prior to the outing.

PERIOD OF NOTICE AND TERMINATION

If you wish to withdraw your child from the nursery, we require one month’s written notice or one month’s fees in lieu of notice.  A Flying Start Nursery reserves the right to require the withdrawal of any child, subject to either one month’s notice or the refund of one month’s fees in lieu of notice.

DISCIPLINE

We concentrate on good behaviour. We reward any positive behaviour rather than concentrating on the negative aspects.  The Nursery staff are responsible for the behaviour of the children in their rooms.  Staff will deal with any misbehaviour and explain to the child why their behaviour is unacceptable (if they are old enough).

CHILD PROTECTION – INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

The Nursery has a rigorous child protection policy to ensure the welfare and safety of all the children.  If the Nursery staff suspect that a child in their care may be subject to ill treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse, staff will follow the Child Protection Policy (provided in full in the Policies and Procedures) and will inform Social Services of our concerns.  This may involve a visit from a social worker.

ALL STAFF EMPLOYED BY A FLYING START NURSERY HAVE BEEN CHECKED WITH THE CRIMINAL RECORDS BUREAU PRIOR TO BEING APPOINTED, AS WE ARE COMMITED TO SAFE GUARDING CHILDREN.

Staff working at the Nursery value and respect the different racial origins, religions, special needs, cultures and languages so that each child is valued as an individual.

SETTLING IN POLICY

We recommend that you introduce your child gradually into the nursery routine.  You will be allowed to stay and settle your child for as long as agreed with the manager.  Please see above for charges applicable.  A named member of staff will be allocated to your child on admission.

A Flying Start Nursery welcomes all children and aims to respond appropriately to each child’s background and individual needs.  We ask parents to give us as much notice and information to allow us to give the child an effective and straightforward introduction into the nursery environment. It is also important to let us know if you are going to be delayed in picking your child up.

SECURITY

We ask you to provide a list of authorised people who can collect your child in your absence. A car make, registration number and some form of identification will be required in case of any misunderstanding.
